Bachelor & Master theses

You have the opportunity to write Bachelor's and Master's theses on the various topics of Operations Management. As part of the Master's thesis with research seminar you also have the opportunity to write term papers at our chair. A list of completed theses can be found here.

Supporting documents for scientific work and other installation instructions can be found here.

Bachelor theses

The chair offers a Bachelor's final seminar (german) in summer term 2026. Bachelor's thesis topics can be chosen from the following subject areas. A concretization and the determination of the exact topic will be made in consultation with the supervisors.
The formal allocation of places for Bachelor's theses is organized centrally at the Faculty of economics and management. Here you can find further information on the central allocation process, such as eLearning access and the timetable.

Master theses

For the coming semester, as in the previous semester, the Chairs of Operations Management, Management Science and Data-Driven Decision Support will jointly organize the assignment of Master's thesis topics.

Therefore, it is imperative that you apply for a topic, if you intend to write your Master's thesis at one of these three chairs. To do so, please complete the following form and send it to : Application form Master thesis.

In addition to the form, please send a current excerpt from your transcript of records.

The application deadline for applying to write a Master's thesis in the winter term 2026/2027 is  September 1st, 2026.

Please note that we expect you to have already completed a scientific seminar or a scientific project at one of our chairs. After your application has been accepted, we will negotiate a topic with you.

Topics can come from two sources:

  • We propose a topic to you before the application deadline (please indicate in your application whether you are interested in one of these topics).
  • You propose a topic in an exposé of 1 to 2 pages that is related to our research and the Master's courses offered by our chairs.

Possible topics in the winter term 2026/2027 at the Chair of Operations Management:

  • Instance space analysis for scheduling benchmarks

  • Investigating the integration of work combination charts in scheduling algorithms for real-world job shop turbine manufacturing

  • Scheduling with lot streaming and variable processing times

  • Machine learning approaches for railway crew scheduling

  • Scheduling algorithms for job-shop-type remanufacturing systems with component matching requirement

  • Green Scheduling of Production Shops considering Job Reworking

  • Advanced Metaheuristic Method for Decision-Making in a Dynamic Job Shop Scheduling Environment

  • Unrelated parallel machines scheduling with random rework to minimize expected total weighted tardiness

  • Literature review on urban public transportation network optimization

  • Multi-vehicle stochastic-dynamic inventory routing for bike sharing systems

  • Service Level Optimization in Multi-Period Inventory Routing Problems

  • Literature review of Rolling Horizon Approaches for Stochastic Dynamic Inventory Routing Problems

  • Quantum-Inspired metaheuristics for optimization problems

  • Applications of deep learning in operations management

  • Multi-stage stochastic programming in resource allocation

  • Future directions in stochastic processes and simulation

  • Dynamic programming for route optimization in logistics
